Here is the dolce vita of the Mille Miglia

The best ever
BRESCIA – The 40th edition of the Mille Miglia ends: a four-day event, from Brescia to Rome and back, which sees the 1929 6C 1750 Super Sport Zagato of the Brescian Vesco-Salvinelli crew on the podium for the third consecutive time. For Vesco – first in the standings in 2020 alongside his father Roberto – there is the satisfaction of having dispelled a taboo that had persisted for 22 years: in fact, only Giuliano Cané, between 1998 and 2000, had managed to establish himself among the regularists of the race in three consecutive editions.
In second place were Belometti and Bergomi from Bergamo, at the wheel of the Lancia Lambda Spider TIPO 221 (1929). Third position, finally, for the Turelli from Brescia, with their OM 665 mm Superba.
Four winners of the special trophies linked to the Time Trials: Lorenzo and Mario Turelli, on OM 665 S MM Superba 2000 from 1929, won the Nuvolari Trophy, dedicated to the 130th anniversary of the birth of Tazio Nuvolari. The Monza 2022 Autodrome Centenary Trophy is instead owned by Alberto and Giuseppe Scapolo on the 1929 OM 665 S MM Superba 2000. Silvia Marini and Irene Dei Tos win the Ladies’ Cup. The catwalk in via Venezia was also open to the racing cars of the Ferrari Tribute (first Andrea Milesi and Giordano Mozzi) and of the 1000 Miglia Green (won by Giancarlo Fisichella).
A race held as tradition, with effort and sweat: almost 2000 km between heat and rain, for twenty-seven timed trials, from the hairpin bends of the Cidneo to the curves of the Monza racetrack, meeting lakes – from Garda to Trasimeno – seas – from the Adriatic to the Tirreno – mountain passes and passes: one above all, the Cisa. Not a few problems also for the teams at the top of the standings, such as the failure of Giovanni Moceri’s Alfa Romeo 6C 1500 SS with his wife Valeria dicembre, who later left the race; the accident with a police escort car in Trezzo sull’Adda (Milan) for the 1929 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 Super Sport Zagato of Alberto Aliverti and Stefano Valente. Fortunately there were no injuries and they finished fifth in the standings.

«It was wonderful» declared Rudy Zerbi, special guest, from Auto 1000, at the end of the race: the car that opened the bus, as well as witnessing all the events, was the first car to win in 1927. With him on board also Sonny Colbrelli, champion on the saddle of the Paris-Roubaix 2021, accompanied by the actor Giorgio Pasotti: “It was a unique experience – he commented -. Next year? I would like. It would be nice to race with a woman behind the wheel! ”. A starting point, seeing the passionate drivers, but also the “pink car” Huracan Evo with presenter Victoria Cabello, showgirl Paola Barale and singer Arisa on board, in support of the 1000 Miglia Charity project for the Ieo Monzino Foundation. A success that aims to become genderless, as well as timeless.
