S.it is usually thought that the hair thinning is a typically male problem, but is not so. It also affects women, though manifests itself differently: if the hair of men is involved in the front-temporal part and at the top, in the female part the problem is more uniform and involves the entire hair.
Hair thinning, when it occurs
Hair thinning is the strongest sign of a stressed scalp. It occurs when the follicles generate thinner hair, in less quantity than normal, so much so that they appear more sparse. The life span of the hair itself is shorter.
The phenomenon can present itself in two different ways: Androgenetic Alopecia or Telogen Effluvium. For both, the causes are more or less the same: hormonal changes, pollution, severe stress.
Androgenetic alopecia, when the hair does not grow
In this case, the thinning is very localizedmainly in the upper part of the scalp, called the hormone-sensitive scalp.
«The causes of Androgenetic Alopecia are genetic or hormonal conditions. In women it is usually associated with ovarian polycystosis “ explains Anna Trink, a dermatologist specializing in trichology.
«In this case the hair does not grow in length and thickness, so much so that it slowly takes on the appearance of fluff. It deals with, at least at the beginning, of a loss of quality rather than quantity and requires specialist medical advice “.
Telogen Effluvium, when the hair has a shorter life
The Telogen Effluvium it occurs, however, when the hair, pur keeping their structure intact, they have a shorter life cycle: «The fall is abundant but often without real thinning and, when it occurs, it is slight and localized laterally, in the two areas of the scalp above the auricles ».
“Compared to nails, which have persistent growth, hair follows cyclical rhythms in which a growth phase alternates, the anagento a transitional one, the catagenup to that of arrest, the telogen, which leads to the fall. In case of Telogen Effluvium, many hairs enter the telogen phase at the same time and, therefore, the fall becomes abundant“.
Behind this problem there are some physiological conditions: it is very frequent post-partum or during the change of seasons but it can also occur after excessive exposure to the sun or in certain pathological conditions such as malnutrition.
Trichological therapies to revitalize the hair
Land trichological therapies must be chosen starting from the identification of the cause of hair thinning. “Androgenetic Alopecia can be treated pharmacologically or through the use of supplements, based on herbal medicines to restore the correct hormonal balance. Often there are also gels or lotions based on natural anti-inflammatories, ”explains Dr Trink.
Therapy for the Telogen Effluvium, on the other hand, must prolong the growth phase of the hair by slowing down its fall. «It is based on a pool of amino acids, vitamins and minerals that guarantee the stems the elements necessary for growth».
Good habits for healthy hair
The well-being of the hair also passes through good habitsas a’balanced nutrition rich in whole grains, seasonal fruit and vegetables.
“From do not underestimate personal hygiene as well. The hair should be washed every time it is dirty, even every day if necessary, choosing delicate products for frequent use. It is essential to protect them from smog and atmospheric agents with special sprays »concludes the expert.
