He was celebrating his birthday and returning from a sporting trip when the van he was traveling in with his team overturned on the highway. Leo Balzaretti12 years old, he didn’t do it. He died in a terrible accident on the‘A4, between the Marcallo-Mesero and Novara Est toll booths, last night. His father was driving the minivan.

The boy died in the night – reports the Traffic Police – at the hospital of Novara where he was hospitalized in very serious conditions.

The vehicle overturned at kilometer 104 involving seven people in the accident, five were injured but immediately Leo’s conditions appeared the most serious.

The other wounded were transported to the Magenta hospital. There are no other vehicles involved in the accident which are being investigated by the traffic police of East Novara.

Leo Balzaretti was a footballer, he wore the shirt of Bluè Bellinzago. Yesterday he was in the van that was taking him home with other teammates, driven by his father.

They were returning from an away match, a tournament in Viareggio which had also been an opportunity for Leo to celebrate his twelfth birthday on Saturday.The van overturned at kilometer 104, seven kilometers from the arrival in Bellinzago Novarese.

A tire in the vehicle exploded and the driver lost control and overturned. Investigations by the traffic police of the Novara Est subsection are underway on the dynamics of the accident.

The young man’s father was unharmed but in the accident, which involved seven people, there are four others injured. The most serious is another teammate of Leo who has sustained several fractures and abdominal trauma.

“Leo had been playing with us for two years, he was a defender – says club president Luigi Blasi – He was delighted to be able to celebrate his birthday with the team and his father was happy to accompany him”. His father Stefano is also a coach of the sports club, he trains the younger kids of Leo. “As soon as we heard we rushed to the hospital, we hoped to receive at least a hope, but when we arrived, Leo was already gone.”

Now the family is thinking of organizing the boy’s funeral at the sports field where Leo trained every week. “We have given all our availability”, assures the company.
