Covid in Italy, the bulletin of 11 June: 22,104 new cases and 60 deaths

In Italy in the last 24 hours there have been 22,104 new cases of coronavirus and 60 deaths. 187,234 swabs performed: positivity at 11.8% (-0.9%). Yesterday there were 21,554 infections, 52 deaths.

The total casualties since the beginning of the pandemic thus rise to 167,365. There are three fewer intensive care units (yesterday -1) with 12 daily admissions, and they are 193 in all. On the other hand, in the ordinary wards there are 86 fewer patients (yesterday -72), for a total of 4,076. This is what emerges from the daily bulletin of the Ministry of Health.

The current positives are still decreasing with -2,455 cases in 24 hours: the total number of people struggling with the virus in the country today is 620,966 of which 616,697 in home isolation. A total of 17,634,065 Italians have been infected since the beginning of the pandemic while the discharged and healed are 16,845,734, an increase of 24,853 compared to yesterday.

Iss, increasing incidence of infections, mean age 48 years

The Higher Institute of Health records an increase in the incidence of Covid-19 infections in the most recent period surveyed with aggregate data. Based on the aggregate data collected by the Ministry of Health and disclosed in the report ‘Covid-19: surveillance, impact of infections and vaccination efficacy’, an increase is observed compared to the previous week (222 per 100,000 inhabitants in the period 3/6/2022 -9/6/2022 compared to 207 per 100,000 inhabitants in the period 05/27/2022 – 2/6/2022). The incidence decreased at 14 days in all age groups.
In the 30-39 age group the highest incidence rate is recorded at 14 days, equal to 484 per 100,000, while in the 0-9 year age group the lowest value is recorded, 332 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. The median age at diagnosis of subjects reported in the past 14 days is 48 years.

Iss, Omicron BA2 dominant variant. Take BA4 and BA5

From the latest rapid survey on the prevalence and distribution of Sars-CoV-2 variants of public health interest in Italy (3 May 2022), conducted by the ISS and the Ministry of Health together with regional laboratories and the Bruno Kessler Foundation, it emerges that the Omicron variant is now virtually the only variant of Sars-CoV-2 circulating in our country. In this latest survey, the BA.2 sub-lineage accounts for 93.83% of the Omicron variants. This last result is in line with what has been reported in other European and non-European countries. 12 sequences attributable to BA.4 and 6 sequences attributable to BA.5 were also detected, equal to 0.47% and 0.41% respectively. of the total Omicron sequences. The report also reads that during the last week the number of reported cases, hospitalizations, intensive care admissions and deaths decreased. Compared to the previous week, the percentage of cases among health workers compared to the rest of the population remains stable (2.4%). The 7-day incidence rate, down sharply compared to the previous week, is between 100 and 150 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the 0-9 age groups e) 90 years, between 150 and 200 cases per 100,000 inhabitants between 10 and 29 years and between 70 and 89 years, between 200 and 250 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in other age groups . The 7-day incidence rate of hospitalizations is decreasing in all age groups. Iss: administered nearly 138 million doses

From 27 December 2020 – starting date of the anti-Covid vaccination campaign in Italy – to 8 June 2022, 137,910,418 doses were administered. In particular, the first doses administered are 47,311,257, the second / sole doses 49,908,747, the third doses 39,927,813 and the fourth doses 762,601. The data is contained in the extended weekly report of the Higher Institute of Health ‘Covid-19: surveillance, impact of infections and vaccination efficacy’. In the 5-11 year range, in which vaccination began on 16 December 2021, on 8 June 2022 there is coverage with at least one dose of 38.1% and with the complete primary cycle of 34.7%.

From 24 August 2021 to 5 June 2022, 519,603 cases of reinfection from Covid-19 were reported. In the last week the percentage of the total cases was 6.3%, stable compared to the previous week (6.3%).
