The Rome International Tennis Championships are almost like a Grand Slam: two weeks and 96 players
A few days after the conclusion of the seventy-ninth edition, the Internationals of Italy they look more and more like a Grand Slam tournament. Rome similar to Wimbledon. At the Master 1000 of the Foro Italico 96 players (no longer 56) will compete in twelve match days. Only one round of matches less than the most important tennis tables, which count 128 participants.
The ATP has announced that the one in Rome will be one of the three Masters 1000 – the others are Madrid And Shanghaiwith Montreal And Cincinnati that will reach this status after another two years – which, from 2023, will see its duration lengthened from eight to twelve days and grow its scoreboard from 56 to 96 players.
The prize pool will also grow: it will gradually increase by 48% by 2025. As regards the women’s tournament, talks are underway with the WTA to adapt it to the length and size of the men’s one. The ATP has also announced the calendar of the 2023 circuit: the 80th edition of the Internazionali will take place from 10 to 21 May 2023.
