Forget the croissants, cookies and even avocado toast, for breakfast there is now a surprising idea that can make the morning awakening tastier: pasta! Whether it’s the classic spaghetti with tomato sauce, or a tasty carbonara, or the very fragrant trenette with pesto, pasta for breakfast is the new food trend in many countries, from the USA to England, from Australia to Germany. To recommend the choice are first of all the nutritionists.
That the main dish of Italian cuisine had conquered worldwide consensus is well known: it is easy to prepare, it is versatile and it goes well with all meals, at dinner at home, when you invite friends, but also for a quick lunch at work. Now, however, American, British, Australian and German nutrition professionals say that noodles, spaghetti and macaroni and all other pasta shapes can be a delicious and correct substitute for the classic breakfast preparations, corn flakes and cereals ” greedy “included. They point out that complex carbohydrates, healthy fats and proteins are always the basis of a breakfast that ensures early morning energy and satiety until lunchtime. And a pasta dish is easier to digest than certain preparations based on eggs, bacon, potatoes and maybe even cheese, which make up the lion’s share of breakfasts in many countries.

The proposal may seem provocative, yet many of the ingredients used to produce pasta, both dry and fresh, are the same present in what is traditionally used for the preparation of breakfast: flour, eggs, olive oil. Yet – they say – strangely in the collective imagination so far pasta has always remained firmly only in the realm of lunch and dinner. From TikTok to YouTube, from the most prestigious magazines to the magazines of the big clinics, now recipes are blooming that invite you to try eating a plate of pasta as soon as you wake up, before facing the commitments of the day. For Elle Germany there are no doubts: the best choice is a plate of spaghetti carbonara, “considerably healthier than the classic sandwich with Nutella or jam, which contain a lot of sugar and simple carbohydrates”, which “can derail sugar levels in the blood”.
The breakfast carbonara from the famous fashion magazine is not the most orthodox: it is prepared with the addition of rocket and parsley stewed in a little chicken or vegetable broth, and poached eggs. The online magazine of the Cleveland Clinic hospitals (large facilities in the USA, Canada, London and Abu Dhabi) explains that the “pasta for breakfast” is a great choice, especially when it is topped with a good dose of fresh peas that ensure the right amount of protein. The recipe – they recommend linguine, rigatoni or conchiglie – includes the optional addition of two tablespoons of Greek yogurt and grated Parmigiano Reggiano.

Lauren Rose writing on the Australian edition of the popular Lifehacker portal which offers tips for living your life better, recommends “spaghetti breakfast” with smoked bacon, cherry tomatoes, poached eggs, peas, parsley and chives. In Germany, the prestigious Federal Nutrition Center (BZfE) invites you to focus on wholemeal pasta for breakfast, or based on chickpea or lentil flour, to ensure the body the right amount of fiber from the early morning. To flavor the dish, homemade tomato sauce, pesto or a fried, scrambled or poached egg that more recalls the idea of a German breakfast. And why not spaghetti with garlic and oil and chilli? Working in smart working so much does not even arise the problem of heavy breath to spare the neighbors at the desk.
